Next weekend the ball will finally be flying again in the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga. To ensure that the orange leather ends up in the opponent’s basket as often as possible, the Nuremberg Falcons have strengthened their team with Gabe Kalscheur and have landed an absolute transfer coup with the former Iowa State star. Welcome!
Nuremberg’s new signing Gabe Kalscheur has been in the Franconian metropolis since last week. After successfully completing his medical check, the 25-year-old guard accompanied his new teammates to Austria for the traditional preseason double test against Wels and Gmunden. There he played both games and scored 21 and 14 points respectively. Kalscheur’s qualities are not only in offense, but also in defense. That’s why he’s here. “Gabe will help us enormously in strengthening our guard rotation. It’s his rookie season in Europe, but he knows how basketball is played and how he can score points here. His defensive qualities are also worth highlighting at this point. We also have room for improvement here.
Energy and tailwind
Kalscheur spent his successful college years at the University of Minnesota and at Iowa State. He played 68 games for the Cyclones. He made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA with his team and was voted All Defense and 2nd Team in 2023 as the second-best scorer on his team in his conference, the strong Big 12. After college, his ability to score earned him two invitations to the NBA Summer League (2023 & 2024) and engagements with several G-League teams. In Germany, the 25-year-old, who will wear number 22 for the Falcons, wants to really get going and bring a bit of NCAA highlight flair to the Noris. Managing Director Ralph Junge is proud of this transfer coup and the well-known reinforcement shortly before the start of the season: “Having a player of Gabe’s caliber and skills here with us in Nuremberg is nothing less than a sensation. His signing gives us energy and momentum on and off the pitch and we can hardly wait for the first game of the season on Sunday.
