It is a tradition without equal.
Since 1997, the University’s Taylor Trojans have created an official Christmas celebration called “Silent Night.”

The tradition, meant to celebrate the holidays and the end of the semester, includes a sold-out basketball game, where fans wear costumes and remain completely silent until Taylor scores his tenth game point.

Then, the fans broke the silence by storming the court at Odle Arena.
Last Friday the annual game was held, this time against Moody Bible Institute. And fans don’t have to stay quiet for long.
90 seconds into the game, junior Nate Paarlberg escaped down the court and scored the Trojans’ 10th point. The fans simultaneously stormed the field to celebrate and, to avoid a technicality, a time-out was often requested from the media.

The traditions continued in the last minute of the play, when the audience, arms raised, began to sing “Silent Night.”
Taylor won 107-59 and improved to 26-1 in “Silent Night” games.

According to the school’s website, Taylor is an “evangelical faith interdenominational liberal arts college” in Upland, Indiana.
