The Korea Badminton Association decided not to pursue coach Kim Hak-gi on the 9th after holding a performance review meeting to consider his reappointment. Director Kim Hak-kyun, four of the five persons to be evaluated did not pass (re-appointment) and the parties were informed of this result.
The association will receive appeals from leaders who were told that they will not be rescheduled for a week. Coach Kim’s vacant head coaching position of the badminton team will be filled by open recruitment.
Coach Kim Hak-gyun has signed a contract with the Korea Badminton Association starting November 2022. At last year’s 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Korea won two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals.
The 2024 Paris Olympics also showed Korean badminton’s potential. Movie star Ahn Se-yong Kim Won-ho and Jong Na-eun achieved their feat by winning the mixed doubles silver medal.
