Chris Wood’s Resurgence: A 7th Place Finish at Turkish Airlines Open
From Hell to Hope: Wood’s Journey
Chris Wood, the 37-year-old English golfer, has endured a rollercoaster ride in recent years. After reaching a career-high 22nd in the world rankings in 2016, injuries and mental struggles saw him plummet to 1,472nd. But could his 7th place finish at the Turkish Airlines Open signal a turnaround?
“I Feel Like I’ve Been Going Through Hell”
Wood was candid about his struggles, saying, “I feel like I’ve been going through hell.” Despite his battles, he managed to card a final round 64 (-7), his lowest score on the European Tour since 2016.
A Glimmer of Hope
This top 10 finish is Wood’s best since the KLM Open in 2018. It’s a much-needed boost for the three-time DP World Tour winner, who has been battling injuries and mental demons since 2019.
Wood hopes this performance will lead to more invitations to play on the Tour. He said, “I hope that (this top 10) is a first step forward and that all those who wish to see me participate in their event do not hesitate to contact me, because I need to take some departures this year!”
Looking Ahead
Wood’s next scheduled event is the Soudal Open in Antwerp, Belgium, starting May 22. This time, he’s earned his spot through his performance, not an invitation.
