Maple Leafs and Panthers Clash in Florida: Cheaper Tickets, Fewer Canadian Fans
Unexpectedly Affordable Tickets
Calling all Florida hockey fans! Tickets for Friday’s pivotal Game 3 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers are surprisingly affordable. As of five hours before puck drop, reseller Stubhub had seats starting at around $100, with plenty more available in the $200 to $300 range. This is a stark contrast to Toronto, where the cheapest tickets were just under $500, topping $1,000.
“To my surprise, a lot of the stuff is cheaper,” said Mark Fera, a Toronto resident who flew down for the game. “Flights, car rental, hotel — it’s all less expensive this time around.”
Canadian Attendance Down
The affordability of tickets may be attributed to a decrease in Canadian visitors, some fans suggest. Daniel St. Denis, a Canadian now living in the U.S., noticed a “drastic drop” in Canadian attendance at games, resorts, and beaches.
St. Denis isn’t the only one who’s noticed. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there were over 900,000 fewer land border crossings from Canada in March compared to 2023, a 22% drop. Air Canada also reported a 10% decline in Canada-U.S. flight bookings.
Panthers Home Ice Advantage
With fewer Canadian fans expected at the Amerant Bank Arena, St. Denis thinks it will be “true home ice” for the Panthers. He’s not alone in his optimism for the team. Even as a Senators fan, he admires the Leafs’ playoff performance: “If they get past the Panthers, it’s their cup to lose,” he said.
Did you know?
Did you know that the U.S. typically welcomes more visitors from Canada than any other country? In 2023, Canadians spent $20.5 billion while visiting the U.S.
