Charlotte Women’s Tennis Advances to Semifinals: Freshmen Shine in UTR WNIT Championships

Freshmen Lead Charlotte to Semis

ROME, Ga. — In a nail-biting match, the No. 48 Charlotte Women’s Tennis team outclassed St. Mary’s, 4-1, to advance to the UTR WNIT Championships Semifinals on Wednesday. The team’s young guns, Ni Xi, Prisca Abbas, and Amira Badawi, were instrumental in clinching the victory.

“We had to shake off some postseason nerves today,” said Head Coach Anthony Davison. “Once we found our stride, we performed well. We’re excited for the opportunity to play in the semifinals tomorrow.”

Stars Shine in Singles and Doubles

  • Ni Xi, fresh off her American Athletic Conference All-Conference team nod, sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.
  • Prisca Abbas started the momentum with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, maintaining her perfect 13-0 record.
  • The team’s lone graduate student, Amira Badawi, along with Sara Suchankova, won the No. 1 doubles match 6-4. Badawi then clinched the second point with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

The Road Ahead: North Alabama

Charlotte’s next opponent, North Alabama, defeated Middle Tennessee 4-2 in their quarterfinal match. The Blue Raiders, now 18-5, are led by their doubles performances, The Lions dropped the doubles point but rallied to win four singles matches against North Alabama.

Thursday’s meeting between Charlotte and North Alabama will be the first.
