Gunfire broke out Wednesday evening near the presidential palace in N’Djamena, capital of Chad. A commando of 25 members carried out an assault, causing 19 deaths, including 18 attackers, and 6 injured, according to Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah.
The head of diplomacy affirmed that soldiers had defended the president and that the situation was now under control. “The situation is completely under control, there is no reason to worry,” he declared during an intervention broadcast live from a visibly calm presidential palace.
This incident occurs a week after the holding of legislative elections, the results of which are still awaited.
