Tigers Suffer First Loss in Six Matches

The Colorado College women’s tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Tuesday evening with a 5-2 loss to 12^th-ranked Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Doubles Play Sets the Tone

CC, ranked 36^th in the latest ITA Division III poll, secured one doubles victory, but Trinity ultimately claimed the point. Eva Kovachev and Allison Vu defeated Lindsay Popeo and Avery Hickman 6-0 at the No. 3 match. Kala Komanduri and Ally Lowe then defeated Lauren Tim and Katie Schmidt, 6-3. The crucial No. 1 doubles match saw Aspen Young and Lucia Moravek fall 7-6(6) to Rosabella Andrade and Trinity Levy.

Singles Competition Sees Mixed Results

Colorado College managed two victories in singles play. Aspen Young won a hard-fought match over Kovachev, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, at the top spot, while Lucia Moravek downed Schmidt, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 5 spot. Trinity won the remaining four matches in straight sets.

“We fought hard, but Trinity is a very strong team,” said a team spokesperson.

Looking Ahead: Matchup with Caltech

Colorado College (7-3) will return to action on Thursday, March 19, against 31^st-ranked Cal Tech in Pasadena, Calif., beginning at 3 p.m. (PT).
