Carolina Marín: “I Can Because I Think I Can”
Spanish badminton superstar Carolina Marín, the three-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist, shared her inspiring story of resilience and determination at the recent Santander Womenow leadership congress. Despite two severe knee injuries in the past five years and the loss of her father, Marín remains a beacon of strength and positivity.
“The knee is enduring. Now, for me winning is already the possibility of taking a racket.”
From Darkness to Light
Marín recalled the devastating moment last year when she injured her right knee again, this time during the Olympic Games in Paris. “I saw everything very dark. Not only for having destroyed both knees in a period of five years but also for the loss of my father at the end of July 2020.
Despite the devastating blow, Marín refused to succumb to the wheelchair, walking out of the stadium under her own power. This display of resilience and determination earned her praise from her coach and fellow athletes.
