Calabria Region Launches Inclusive Sports Project for People with Disabilities and At-Risk Youth
New Initiative Aims to Break Down Barriers Through Sport and Therapy
Lamezia Terme, Italy – A groundbreaking project, Abilities in Movement: Integration and Wellbeing through Sport
, is officially underway in the Calabria Region, offering a lifeline of opportunity to minors and individuals facing social exclusion. The initiative, promoted by TYCKESPORT APD and funded by the Calabria Region through the “SuperAbilities” Notice (PR Calabria FESR FSE+ 2021-2027), provides a comprehensive, 24-month program of sports activities and non-pharmacological therapies – all free of charge.
Who is Eligible to Participate?
The project is designed to support those most vulnerable in the region. Eligibility is open to residents of Calabria who meet one of the following criteria:
- Individuals with Disabilities: Certified under Law 104/92, with priority given to those covered by art. 3 paragraph 3, and subsequently, art. 3 paragraph 1.
- Minors in a State of Poverty: Belonging to families with an ISEE income not exceeding €18,000.00.
A Holistic Approach: Combining Sports and Therapeutic Interventions
The Abilities in Movement
program distinguishes itself through its innovative blend of physical activity and therapeutic support. Participants will engage in 14 hours of monthly activities encompassing a variety of sports – including Badminton, Pickleball, Athletics, and Bocce – alongside three specialized Non-Pharmacological Therapies (TNF):
- Music Therapy with Moisikè Aps
- Theater Therapy
- Hippotherapy

Project Details and Transparency
The project was officially approved on March 3, 2026, with Regional Executive Decree no. 3056. TYCKESPORT APD has proactively engaged with Social Services in the Municipality of Lamezia Terme and the Social-Health District of the ASP of Catanzaro to maximize outreach and collaboration with existing support networks.
