The Caja Rural cyclist, Josu Etxeberria, has been admitted to the ICU of the University Hospital of Navarra after being involved in a training accident.

According to his team’s social media post, Etxeberria has sustained multiple injuries. Although the injuries are serious, he is conscious and able to move his extremities. The team wishes him a speedy recovery and sends him much encouragement.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at kilometer 4 of the NA4120 (Gulina-Aróstegui) in Iza. The Provincial Police are conducting the investigation.

Etxeberria, a 23-year-old resident of Iturmendi, was airlifted to the Navarro University Hospital. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man from Berrioplano, escaped unharmed.
