Singaporean second seed dismantles Finnish opponent in straight games

TAPEI, TaiwanLoh Kean Yew, Singapore’s badminton ace, stormed into the quarter-finals of the BWF Taipei Open 2025 with a commanding performance against Finland’s Joakim Oldorff on Thursday.

The world No. 2 needed just 35 minutes to overcome his Finnish rival 21-17, 21-12 in their first-ever meeting. Loh, fresh from a tough three-game encounter against Hong Kong’s Chan Yik Chak the previous night, was swift and clinical in his victory.

Loh will now face Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul in the quarter-finals. The Thai shuttler, ranked 49th in the world, will provide a stern test for the Singaporean star.

“Panitchaphon is a tough opponent. I’ve played him a few times before, and I know he’ll give me a good match. But I’m looking forward to it,” Loh said, expressing his readiness for the challenge.
