This Thursday, August 1, 2024, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, carried out a technical ministerial reshuffle. This readjustment, although slight, introduces important changes in the structure and attributions of certain ministries, in order to better respond to the current challenges of the country.

One of the main changes in this reshuffle is the elevation of the Ministry Delegate for Security to the rank of a full ministry. Previously attached to the Territorial Administration, this new ministry will still be headed by Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana. This decision underlines the crucial importance of security in the current context of Burkina Faso.

Emile Zerbo, who was Minister of Territorial Administration, sees his responsibilities expanded to now include Mobility (Transport). This merger of portfolios could improve the management and coordination of transport infrastructure with territorial issues.

The now former Minister of Transport, Urban Mobility and Road Safety, Roland Somda, takes charge of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Employment. This portfolio, previously under the responsibility of Boubacar Savadogo, now focuses on the development of opportunities for young people and sport.

Boubacar Savadogo, for his part, was appointed head of a new ministry dedicated to secondary education and vocational and technical training, emphasizing the importance of these sectors for the future of Faso.

The reshuffle also involved a simplification and redefinition of the names of several ministries to improve clarity of their missions.
Thus, the Ministry of National Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages becomes the Ministry of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages.
The Ministry of Health and Hygiene is now the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Disenclavement becomes simply the Ministry of Infrastructure. The Ministry of Urban Planning, Land Affairs and Housing becomes the Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing.

The Ministry of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender and Family is reorganized into the Ministry of Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity.

By clarifying the roles and responsibilities of each ministry, this readjustment could strengthen the government’s capacity to respond to the needs of citizens and the country’s challenges. This reshuffle could also mark a step towards better governance and more strategic management of resources and skills within the Burkinabé government.
