LASK Draws Hartberg, Focus Shifts to Cup Semi-Final
Linz – LASK and TSV Hartberg battled to a scoreless draw on Friday, as Dietmar Kühbauer’s side prepares for a pivotal ÖFB Cup semi-final clash against Ried next Wednesday, with a spot in the final at Klagenfurt on the line.
Match Recap: A Game of Patience
The match was characterized by a cautious approach from both sides, with Hartberg presenting a strong defensive challenge. LASK, currently in a strong position in the league standings, struggled to break down a resilient Hartberg defense.
Early in the game, Samuel Adeniran had a promising opportunity for LASK, narrowly missing a cross. However, clear-cut chances were few and far between, with much of the play unfolding in midfield. Hartberg’s Havel went down in the penalty area but was cautioned for simulation.
Second-Half Struggles and Tactical Adjustments
Despite dominating possession, LASK found it difficult to convert opportunities into goals. Sasa Kalajdzic’s header was saved by Hartberg goalkeeper Tom Hülsmann. Both teams made substitutions in an attempt to spark their attacks, but the deadlock remained unbroken.
Hartberg’s Diarra received a red card late in the game for a foul on Kalajdzic, but LASK was unable to capitalize on the man advantage.
Managerial Perspectives
Dietmar Kühbauer (LASK coach): “I knew exactly how the game was going to be. That there was a team that looked for salvation in defense. Unfortunately, we missed taking the lead with the first chance when Samuel (Adeniran) came too late. That would have been the can opener. Then the game would have gone in a different direction. We were always on the ball in the first half, but didn’t have the final solution. It was a good game for us in the second. Hartberg has that too. We had the chances to win the game. I’m not disappointed because the boys showed that they wanted to win the game.”
Manfred Schmid (Hartberg coach): “In terms of results, it’s great. The boys place everything on the pitch tactically, fighting and running. We have to improve offensively. It was a good performance from my team. We lost balls too carelessly. We drew three times against LASK this season, which is honorable against a title favorite. The boys threw everything into it.”
Looking Ahead: Cup Ambitions
With the Bundesliga match ending in a draw, LASK now turns its attention to the ÖFB Cup semi-final against Ried. Manager Dietmar Kühbauer, who previously led Wolfsberger AC to cup success last year, is determined to guide LASK to a cup final appearance.
