Budokan Bocholt Crowns Three National Champions in ID Judo
The SC Budokan Bocholt judo team has made waves at the ID Judo Open State Championship, with three of their athletes securing national titles. Lukas Pudelek, Mats Mäteling, and Hendrik Weidemann showcased their skills and dominated their respective weight classes.
Pudelek, Mäteling, and Weidemann: Unbeatable in Oberhausen
The trio of judokas, Lukas Pudelek (75 kg), Mats Mäteling (52 kg), and Hendrik Weidemann (38 kg), entered the championship with a mission and left as national champions. They each won every bout they fought, earning them the gold medal and making their coaches, Jürgen Hatzky and Tomesz Pudelek, incredibly proud.

Coach Jürgen Hatzky lauded Lukas Pudelek’s performance, calling him the “largest ID judo talent” of SC Budokan. Pudelek dominated his opponents with an impressive repertoire of judo techniques, securing his win in the final against Ben Musaeus in a surprise upset.
Mäteling and Weidemann: Newcomers Shine Bright
Both Mats Mäteling and Hendrik Weidemann, newcomers to the national stage, fought in a triple pool and secured two wins each. Their aggressive combat strategies left coaches and rivals alike impressed.
ID Judo Growth and Development
With 96 active participants from 16 clubs, the ID Judo Open State Championship saw a significant presence. However, Jürgen Hatzky expressed that the number of participants has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels. The sport has evolved over time, with increasing performance gaps and more dynamic movements in higher competition classes.
