It’s always a paper war: the dream houses of some Swiss celebrities are not yet finished. One problem is the large area required for construction – or an angry neighborhood.

No time? blue News summarizes for you

  • Hazel Brugger is struggling with construction defects and threats on her construction site in southern Hesse, which even required personal protection.
  • Xherdan Shaqiri’s construction of a villa in Rheinfelden AG has been stopped due to a successful complaint by neighbors; he has appealed the ruling to the Federal Court.
  • Roger Federer’s villa construction on Lake Zurich is delayed by objections and conflicts over a planned boathouse, so that he and his family cannot move in yet.

Former ice hockey pro Mark Streit is not the only Swiss celebrity who is in a lot of trouble because of building a house. Comedian Hazel Brugger, football pro Xherdan Shaqiri and former tennis pro Roger Federer are also currently struggling with disputes about the construction of their new homes:

The Swiss comedian Hazel Brugger moved into a new home in southern Hesse in Germany with her husband and two children just over four months ago. There is a doormat in front of the house with the words “Superbude” printed on it, but the 30-year-old is struggling with numerous construction defects and an ugly dispute with the construction company is brewing. “Because we were threatened by construction workers on our construction site, we recently needed personal protection,” Brugger recently told her over 800,000 followers on Instagram.

She also posted a photo of a car that belongs to a private security company. In their own Instagram category “Construction”, she and her husband Thomas Spitzer have published dozens of photos of defects: water connections that could not be used, light shafts that were too deep and water on the flat roof that did not drain away.

Bureaucracy puts a damper on things

Professional footballer Xherdan Shaqiri actually wants to build a 270 square meter villa in Rheinfelden AG for 2.8 million francs in accordance with the strict Minergie-P standard. However, a building permit issued in 2022 was revoked. The administrative court upheld a complaint from the neighborhood. According to the ruling, the floor area of the villa planned on a 1000 square meter plot exceeded the maximum utilization rate by over 13 percent. Shaqiri appealed the ruling to the Federal Court.

Former tennis superstar Roger Federer has been building a villa directly on Lake Zurich in Rapperswil-Jona SG since 2019. Objections, old zoning plans and a dispute over the shore path as well as the pandemic have postponed construction several times. There are now six buildings under construction on the 17,000 square meter site. But Federer and his family will not be living in them for the time being. One problem is the building permit for a boathouse. Several objections are pending with the city. For example, an association is fighting for free access to the lake shores and waterways. It fears that if Federer’s boathouse is approved, the shore would be built on in many places.
