From Backyard Trails to World Stage
Lewis’ love affair with gravity-fueled mountain biking began at the winding trails of Ashton Court. Fast forward to 2022, and the teenager is on the cusp of making his mark on the global stage. He admits to feeling a “bit nervous” but is eager to face the daunting tracks and compete against the world’s best, brimming with “just the quickest riders in the world.”
From Zero to Hero in Four Short Years
Lewis, who secured his spot on the GB team after a consistent and impressive season, is the embodiment of speed, skill, and determination. His passion for the sport was sparked by his first mountain bike, and his talent was evident from the start. Despite his young age, he has already clocked speeds of up to 50mph (80kmph) and faced some of the sport’s biggest names.
Risks and Rewards
Mountain biking is a high-speed, high-risk sport. Lewis has the scars to prove it. “I’ve broken both my arms at once – went straight into the back of a jump,” he revealed. Yet, the thrill of the ride outweighs the risks for this fearless teen. He trains on some of Britain’s most exhilarating trails, including Leigh Woods and Belmont Hill, which have molded him into a formidable competitor.
“Start with the basics, get the fundamentals right, and, most importantly, have fun. It’s all about enjoying the ride.”
