“Reverberi Award 2024”, Nicola Brienza won the award in the “best male coach” section. The Pallacanestro Cantù coach will collect the prestigious award on Monday 9 September in Piazza Dante in Quattro Castella, Municipality of Reggiano hosting the awards evening, this year hosted by Mario Castelli and Maria Federica Tromellini. It is a coveted award, the oldest award in the world of basketball, since 1985.

Better known as the “Basketball Oscar”, it was founded a few months after the death of Pietro Reverberi, one of the most important referees in Italy, due to the management of national, international and Olympic games: the award jury is composed of national basketball institutions, professionals and special reporters.

S. Bernardo’s coach has already won the Sandro Gamba Trophy at the end of the last regular season, being voted the best coach of the season in Serie A.

Brienza is in excellent company: he is with the Italians Niccolò Mannion, guard of Pallacanestro Varese, and Matilde Villa, point guard of Reyer Venezia, champion of Italy, who were chosen male and female “MVP”.

The “best female coach” is the recent coach from the Italian flag with Venice, Andrea Mazzon. In the “Under 22” category the Oscars go to the Venetian Davide Casarin and the Brescian Carlotta Zanardi, young star of Schio, while for the first time in the history of the award the Oscar for “best referee” was -assigned to a woman, Silvia Marziali.
