The Bremen Dockers have started their 2023 season in the 2nd Baseball Bundesliga Nord with a bang, winning all five games without a single loss. Their impressive performance has them sitting pretty at the top of the table, with head coach Niclas Führing confidently declaring, "We want to play for the title."

The 2nd Bundesliga North features 19 teams divided into three groups – North, West, and East. Each team will face off against every other team in their group thrice, with the top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams advancing to the playoffs. The final rounds will be a ‘best-of-three’ series, culminating in the worthy champion.

The Dockers’ secret to success lies in their balanced team composition – a mix of experienced veterans and talented youth. Head of department Niclas Führing is satisfied with this blend, which has proven to be a winning recipe. The departure of Jan Schnetlage, a key pitcher, is a setback, but the returning Edvardas Matusevicius, a Lithuanian international, promises to fill the void.

The Dockers’ coaching staff is no less formidable, with Yannick Bujalla, Alberto Orti, and Fabrizio Cagliani at the helm. Both Bujalla and Orti have led the team to the Bundesliga, while Cagliani has earned numerous merits in pitcher roles across various teams. With such a powerhouse trio, the team’s aspirations are well-supported.

The Dockers faced the heavily favored Kiel Seahawks in the season’s first ‘summit meeting’ and emerged victorious. In the first game, Alberto Orti dominated the mound, supported by Edvardas Matusevicius’ strategic hits. In the second game, Fabrizio Cagliani and Matusevicius kept their nerves calm, leading the Dockers to a 5-2 win.

With their unbeaten streak intact, the Dockers set their sights on the upcoming clash against the Dohren Wild Farmers. Niclas Führing has set the goal clear: "The aim is to maintain our strong form with two more victories and retain the top spot."
