PARIS – Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, a 17-year-old from Spain, authored an extraordinary upset at the French Open on Tuesday, outclassing world No. 13 Emma Navarro 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round.

The unseeded teenager, ranked 340 in the world, was ruthless on Court Suzanne Lenglen, dropping just three games in an absorbing contest that lasted only 51 minutes.

“I can’t believe it. It’s fantastic to get this win on such a big stage,” said Bouzas Maneiro in her post-match press conference. “I just tried to focus on my game and not get overwhelmed by the occasion.”
