Boris Becker Reflects on Novak Djokovic’s Praise and Holger Rune’s Potential
Renowned tennis legend Boris Becker graced the Lavazza show in Turin this Tuesday, where he was honored with a magazine cover dedicated to his illustrious career. Amidst the event, Becker took a moment to engage in an exclusive interview with Ubitennis, shedding light on various aspects of the sport.
Djokovic’s Words: A Realistic Perspective
One of the key topics discussed was Novak Djokovic’s recent commendation of Holger Rune, following his victory against the young player. Becker, the German coach, expressed his belief that Djokovic’s praise, though flattering, may not be entirely realistic.
“It’s like comparing day and night. When I began working with Novak, he was already a champion in his mid-twenties, but had temporarily lost his top spot to Nadal. He had to reinvent himself to regain his position and secure more Grand Slam titles. It was a different challenge altogether. When you have already achieved everything, the focus shifts to refining the finer details. On the other hand, Holger has only reached two Slam quarter-finals and is at the nascent stage of his career. At just 20 years old, he is the youngest player here. Djokovic’s comment about playing against his mirror is indeed a significant compliment. However, Holger’s ultimate challenge lies in bridging the gap between himself and Djokovic,” Becker explained.
