Vienna Unveils Sport Arena: A Haven for Sports and Community

Thousands Flock to Inaugural Event

The Sport Arena Vienna, a new multi-purpose sports center, was officially opened on Saturday, drawing an overwhelming crowd of around 7,000 visitors. The opening festival, designed for the whole family, allowed attendees to experience various sports and enjoy entertainment shows.

Sports Galore and Celebrity Appearances

Sports enthusiasts of all ages tested their skills at hands-on stations, from athletics and volleyball to badminton and Kendo. Notable athletes like basketball’s
Sylven Landesberg,
volleyball’s Aida Mehic, and Olympic badminton participant Luka Wrraber made appearances to cheer on the aspiring athletes.

Sustainable Design and Future-Proof Features

The arena, opened by Vienna’s Sports City Councilor Peter Hacker,
presented itself as a sustainable, future-proofed space:

  • 3 halls totaling 13,000 m² of sports surfaces
  • 80% more annual usage hours (38,000 hrs)
  • Renewable energy source and climate-active design
  • 95% reuse of materials, saving around 40,000 liters of diesel

Leaders’ Praise and Future Prospects

“The vibe and rush were overwhelming. This place oozes energy and joy. It’s open, inclusive, and top-notch – a place where sport is celebrated.”

District head Alexander Nikolai hailed the arena as “a strong impulse for local sports”, while
Anatol Richter, Head of Sport Wien (MA 51), expressed gratitude for the “bright eyes of the kids” at the opening.
