Farewell to a Pillar of Swabian Judo
Königsbrunn, Germany – The judo community in Königsbrunn and beyond mourns the passing of Josef “Beppo” Sedran, a man who dedicated his life to the sport and left an indelible mark on its legacy. A Krakauer by birth, Sedran began his remarkable journey with PSV Augsburg in 1967, which would ultimately span over five decades.
From Cashier to Visionary Leader
Sedran’s involvement began humbly as a cashier, but his passion and dedication propelled him to become a trainer, department head, and district leader. In 1979, he took the helm as the Swabian district ladies’ and girls’ director, shaping the future of judo with his vision and commitment.
The Co-Founder of Königsbrunn Police Judo
In 1983, Sedran co-founded the judo department at the Königsbrunn police sports club, setting the stage for the club’s subsequent successes. His impact reverberated beyond Germany, forging international connections with Italy and Japan.

Sedran’s unparalleled contribution to judo earned him prestigious accolades, including the Bavarian Medal of Merit in 2001 and the German Federal Cross of Merit in 2013. Johannes Daxbacher, the most successful judoka from PSV Königsbrunn, paid tribute: “Beppo was incredible for judo sports in our club and nationally. Without his work, we would not be as successful as we are today. We owe him a lot.”
His Legacy Lives On
