Belgian Lions Strengthen Coaching Staff Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers
The Belgian Basketball Federation has bolstered its coaching staff with the appointment of two experienced assistants, Lionel Bosco and Fred Wilmot, ahead of the upcoming international campaigns. They join head coach Julien Mahé to drive the sports project and chase new international successes.
Lionel Bosco: A Proven Track Record and International Expertise
Lionel Bosco, 41, brings a wealth of experience to the Belgian Lions, having played as an international during 2007-2016 and coached several high-level Belgian clubs. His most recent role was as an assistant coach at Baskets Bonn, Germany, where he contributed to the team’s 4 wins and 3 losses in their first 7 matches of the season.
“Lionel’s deep understanding of Belgian basketball and his international experience make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said Julien Mahé, head coach of the Belgian Lions.
Bosco will support the development of young players and bring a fresh perspective to the team’s tactics.
Fred Wilmot: Tactical Mastery and Youth Development
Fred Wilmot, 48, is returning to the Belgian Lions after previously serving as assistant coach from 2018 to 2022. He has also held the position of assistant coach at Spirou Charleroi since 2020, working alongside Sam Rotsaert during that time. Wilmot is recognized for his innovative playing systems and dedication to training young players.
“Fred’s expertise complements Lionel’s and my own, providing the Belgian Lions with a comprehensive and ambitious technical team,” Mahé added.
