The Provençaux delivered a full match for their entry into the BYers Sud Basketball Tournament this Friday at the Halle Henri Giuitta, beating Usap by a score of 81 to 63.
Beaten during the last two weekends, respectively in Aix-les-Bains and Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux, the Fosséens concretized their preparation work with a clear victory against Avignon-Le Pontet, resident of NM1, this Friday for their first match of the “BYers Sud Basketball Tournament”.
Rémi Giuitta’s men quickly took the lead, through their collective spirit and defensive intensity. Mamadou Petit Niang quickly showed his worth to turn his team to +7 after 10 minutes of play (21-14).
The gap flirted with 20 points before the break, until Vauclusiens Nelson Cece and Maël Poiroux found the target at 3-pointers, forcing Maxime Galin to respond to them at the half-time buzzer (44-29).
Last rehearsal tonight
The locals continued on the same wavelength after the break, with once again big defensive sequences and an attack in which each player was able to show themselves (6 players with 8 points and more), notably the interiors Mathieu Wojciechowski and Vincent Vent (13 and 12 points).
The second half was unfortunately disrupted by an unwelcome handball between Avignon’s Chris Koné and Fossé’s Mathieu Wojciechowski.
For the rest, it is undoubtedly the most successful match played by the “Black&Yellow” in recent weeks, with an 81-63 victory concluded by Lucas Bourhis’ 3-pointer and Illia Sydorov’s assist for Mamadou “Petit” Niang (12 points), i.e. the three summer recruits in action. Last rehearsal before the championship resumes tonight at 7:30 p.m. against Antibois, beaten 87-64 by HTV in the previous match.
ECHOES FROM THE BYERS SUD BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Junior Etou spared. Absent during the previous match last Sunday against HTV, Lucas Bourhis (thigh) and Willan Marie-Anaïs (calf) made their return against Usap, playing 24 and 21 minutes respectively. A good omen for the first league match next Friday in Evreux. Junior Etou was however rested. The staff will decide this Saturday regarding his participation in the match against Antibes.
Mohamed Sy’s departure confirmed. Fos Provence Basket announced earlier today the official departure of Mohamed Sy, a member of the management staff for 15 years. “Momo” had finished his playing career at Fos-sur-Mer, then in National 1, in 2008-2009 before beginning his reconversion to occupy the role of “Team Manager”. Originally from Marseille, he was notably the flag bearer of “Marseille Capitale du Sport” in 2017 for his entire work, in Marseille with young people and for wheelchair basketball, and in Fos-sur-Mer.
National 2 in the spotlight. Sponsored by the South League, the BYers Sud Basketball Tournament will highlight four residents of the National A group this Saturday. The first match will pit Smuc against Rognonas at 12:30 p.m., before the duel between Le Cannet and Sapela at 2:30 p.m. HTV-Avignon Le Pontet will follow at 5 p.m., before Fos-Antibes (7:30 p.m.).
