5 Strangest Baseball Games of 2025: The Unsung Heroes on the Diamond
From the Best Shayne Bread of the Era to The Magnificent Seventh, 2025 Had It All
Ah, baseball. The sport that gives you games you’ll never forget, thanks to its unpredictable nature. In 2025, we saw our fair share of strange and amazing contests. Here are the five that had me uncontrollably shaking my head and laughing – just like a sports journalist should.
The 5 Strangest But Truest Games of the Year
From no-hitter to no way!
What the heck happened: Sept. 6 in Baltimore … Orioles 4, Dodgers 3 … history made … minds blown.
What the heck happened: Nissan Stadium, Arlington, Texas, USA – Sept. 30, 2025. The Texas Rangers scored two runs in the ninth inning to force extra innings against the Minnesota Twins. Then they won the game in the 10th inning on a wild pitch. (USA Today)

Now, I’m not saying baseball can’t be weird. But when a no-hitter is broken up in the ninth, and the team that just gave up those runs still wins … and the winning pitcher didn’t even face the batter who broke up the no-no, I’m beginning to think there’s something … strange in the state of baseball.
Dancing with the All-StarsÂ
What the heck happened: July 15 in Atlanta … National League All-Stars 7, American League All-Stars 6 … and the part we’ll remember most evaded box-score captivity!
Yes, baseball columnists love an All-Star Game that ends with a walk-off home run. But every columnist in the world combined can’t come up with a game where the winning team didn’t score a single base hit in their final at-bat. Until this one.
Full speed(way) aheadÂ
What the heck happened: Aug. 2 (and 3), at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway … Braves 4, Reds 2 … with the Strange But True part provided by the miracle of time travel (baseball style).
Playing a game in a different time zone isn’t easy. But if you think that’s hard, try starting a game at 8:05 p.m. and finishing it the next day at 1:45 a.m.
One for the books at WrigleyÂ
What the heck happened: April 18 at the Friendly Confines … Cubs 13, Diamondbacks 11 … in what I was able to officially document was one of the nuttiest games in Wrigley history.
OK, somost of these games have been downright weird. But how about a game in which the Cubs gave up 10 runs in one inning and won. And you know the best part? Before this game, they hadn’t given up 10-plus in an inning since 2021. So what’s a team gotta do to celebrate its 4,000th game at the old ballpark? Score 13 runs in the same inning, of course.
The Pirates are gonna PirateÂ
What the heck happened: Aug. 1-3: Standing on Rocky ground … Blue Jays 45, Rockies 6 … enough said.
We’ve all heard of the Rockies’ famous ‘mile-high’ stadium. But who knew it takes major-league teams two days just to score a single run there? (Sorry, Rockies fans. I’m just reporting the facts, here.)
Did you know … The Blue Jays scored 21 runs in an inning and a half? That was the most runs scored in an inning and a half in the history of the sport!
Let’s play 18Â
What the heck happened: Oct. 27, Game 7, World Series … Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 5 … in … are you kidding me?
Between the 19 bloody pitchers, 31 base hits, 43 runners left on base, and a home run from a man who didn’t even play in the game until the 11th inning, this game had it all. And in classic baseball fashion, it took a whopping six and a half hours to tell the most incredible story.
(Ask me) …
Sure, I could tell you all about the Ohtani Game, the $224 million ball, or the time a team scored 21 runs in a single inning. But isn’t it time you shared some of your stories? Leave me a comment or send me a tweet about your favorite strange baseball game – and don’t forget to tag @sporty_journo.
