Badminton: The first team ends a negative streak

What a liberation in badminton: Heidelberger TV’s first team won both away matches on the final day of play. This puts HTV I in a good third position in the table at the end of the preliminary stage. But for the II and III teams, the match day was not so successful.

However, in their first match against SG Heimsback, the first team fell behind before the start of the game. You only had to compete against three guys instead of the usual four. This means that one of the two men’s doubles is already gone. But the team didn’t back down. On the contrary: Team HTV clearly won four matches – the other men’s doubles, two of the three men’s singles and the women’s singles. In mixed doubles, Tang and Iris kept a cool head and won the match in three sets. On the positive side, five of the eight games were perfect.

Things were better in the second match of the day against TSG Wiesloch. Five games clearly lead to HTV. In the second men’s doubles, Kay and Francois had to battle it out. Kay had to work hard with his singles. The boys completed three sets each, some of them longer – and they were more lucky. The final score for HTV was 1:7. This finally broke the negative momentum of the previous match days.

However, the day was not so successful for the second badminton team. They competed against the same opponents as HTV1 because the two teams I and 2 play in the same league.

There wasn’t enough luck to play with the Whistles. Fabian had to give up the men’s singles very narrowly with 18:21, 21:19 and 22:20 in September. The final score was a narrow 5:3 loss. It simply wasn’t enough in the second game against Heimsbach. It was possible to force the opponents to the third set a few times, but they were always dominant. Only Fabian managed to win the singles this time. In the end it ended 7:1 for the hosts. Accordingly, HTV II was placed at the bottom of the district league table at the end of the preliminaries. For the second season, we must gather all our strength and focus on each encounter.

Our newcomers HTV III also failed to impress in their away game. The team wanted to play against the Waldorf’s undefeated league leaders – and in some matches they were able to meet the Waldorfers on equal footing. But in the end the host proved to be the better team. The game ended with Waldorf 7:1.

HTV players had few chances at Dossenheim. Our third team performed well and made up for the loss of the girls. But in the end, it wasn’t enough to even come close to wresting victory from their opponents. The final score was 8:0. Group III goes into the winter break in a strong fifth place in the table. The goal set at the beginning of this season was to stay in the league – and so far the team is on a good path.
