Geitner and Coube Reign Supreme at Couvent Tournament
The Badminton Club of Reiningue successfully hosted the second edition of the Couvent Tournament this weekend at the Mulhouse Regional Sports Center, attracting approximately 450 players competing across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
Geitner Claims Women’s Singles Title
Élise Geitner (ASPTT Strasbourg), recently promoted to N1, secured the women’s singles title. In a challenging final match, she overcame Camille Raynaud (Toulouse). Initially facing pressure from Raynaud in the first game, Geitner adjusted her strategy, focusing on playing from the baseline to equalize and ultimately win the match.
“At the end, I was leading 20-16, she managed to score three points. Then she gives me a drop shot at the net, I cross on the right side of the baseline even though I arrived a little late and luckily, the shuttlecock is in,”
Élise Geitner
Geitner has ambitious goals for the future, aiming to climb the national rankings from the Top 30 to the Top 20 and qualify for the French Championships next year. She recognizes the demand to defeat higher-ranked opponents and accumulate points in Elite circuit competitions to achieve these objectives.
Coube Triumphs in Men’s Singles
Robinson Coube (Cholet) emerged victorious in the men’s singles competition, defeating Swann Hardi, a player from the Haut-Rhin region. Despite Hardi’s strong performance in a grueling semi-final lasting over an hour, Coube proved too strong in the final.
Coube won the first game 21-12, and after Hardi leveled the match 19-21, Coube dominated the deciding set, winning 21-9.
“The hierarchy was respected. I was seeded No. 2, I held my place. Now, time for the T3F in Saint-Louis next weekend, then international tournaments in Malta, Hungary and Slovenia,”
Robinson Coube
Coube, currently ranked as France’s No. 32 at 20 years ancient, trains at the Mulhouse Academy under François Schmitt-Baagoe.
Doubles Champions Crowned
The tournament also saw success in doubles categories. Louis Morin (Kembs) and Arsène Serre (Cholet) won the men’s doubles title. Margaux Lasis and Saifi Nurhidayah (Red Star Mulhouse) secured the women’s doubles championship, whereas Lilou Schaffner (Strasbourg) and Nicolas Hoareau won the mixed doubles title.
