Elections to Produce New Board under National Sports Commission Supervision
The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) will hold elections in early March 2023, with the process set to usher in a new board under the supervision of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Francis Orbih, the outgoing BFN President, has disclosed.

The new board will be inaugurated immediately after the election, Orbih revealed at a board meeting held at Check Inn Hotel in Abuja last Thursday.
Outgoing President Reflects on Four-Year Tenure
Looking back at his four-year tenure, Orbih attributed the federation’s success to teamwork, highlighting the achievements and commendations garnered from across Africa and beyond. He also praised para-badminton star Eniola Bolaji, who became the first African to win a Paralympic medal in the sport at the last Games.
Elite Players and Funding
- Eniola Bolaji – Currently ranked world number two, she won the Egypt International gold medal and is set to compete in the World Para Badminton Championships and the Spanish event in March.
- Jeremiah Chigozie – On track for Los Angeles, he is on a training grant from the Sports Commission.
- Anu Opeyori – On scholarship in the US, he is adapting to the systems and gearing up for more tournaments.
Funding and Future Prospects
On the issue of funding, Orbih expressed optimism about continued support from the NSC and private sector partners, including GIG Logistics, Yonex, Mutual Benefits Assurance, and Bond Global Energy. He emphasized the need for more private sector support to fuel further progress.
