MEULHEIM, Germany — The annual Mülheim in the Middle festival took over the city’s streets on Sunday, with Schlossstrasse, Rathausmarkt, and the city harbor buzzing with activities that catered to all ages and interests. Among the diverse attractions, one sport stole the show: badminton.
Air Badminton Takes Flight
The local sports club, TSV Heimaterde, set up an outdoor badminton court on Schlossstrasse, offering visitors the chance to try their hand at Air Badminton.
“It was great to see so many people eager to pick up a racket and hit a few shots,” said Julie Marquardt, who manned the TSV Heimaterde stand.

Fans weren’t the only ones getting a taste of the action. TSV Heimaterde trainers Johanna and Lara Käpplein brought along two former international badminton players, allowing visitors to meet and chat with the stars.

“We want to show that badminton is a sport for all ages and skill levels,” said Johanna Käpplein. Her sister, Lara Käpplein, added, “It’s all about having fun and staying active.”
