Avigliana Rebels Crowned Western League Champions After Thrilling Final

Novara, Italy – The Avigliana Rebels emerged victorious in a captivating Western League youth baseball championship game, defeating Settimo Torinese after a grueling contest that extended into four additional innings. The tournament concluded at the Provini diamond in Novara, marking a successful season for the league.

A Tournament of Growth and Competition

The Western League, a youth baseball initiative designed for young players, saw participation from 15 clubs across Lombardy and Piedmont throughout the winter months. Over 100 children, between 9 and 12 years old, took part in decidedly high-level matches, confirming the dedication of the clubs and coaches involved.

Final Day Showdown

Eight teams qualified for the final day, competing in two groups to determine the semi-finalists. The local No-Ve team, comprised of players from Novara and Vercelli, unfortunately fell short in their semi-final match against Settimo Torinese, preventing them from reaching the championship game.

A Record-Breaking Final

The championship game between Avigliana Rebels and Settimo Torinese proved to be an instant classic. To determine the winner, four additional rounds were necessary, ultimately resulting in a hard-fought victory for the Avigliana Rebels. Here’s the second Western League title for the Avigliana Rebels, making them the first team to achieve this milestone.

The organizing committee, made up largely of the management of Athletics Novara directed by president Barbara Toscano and technical director Filippo Spataro, managed the final day of the tournament in the best possible way.

The awards ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Ivan De Grandis, the deputy mayor of Novara, Isabella Dalbesio, the president of the Piedmont regional committee, and Massimo Fontana, son of the late Alberto Fontana, a beloved Novara baseball player and coach. The tournament is named in his honor.

The Avigliana Rebels’ victory marks a significant achievement in the Western League, and the trophy will be permanently awarded to the first team to win at least three editions of the annual tournament.
