Auger-Aliassime Defeats Diallo in Indian Wells, Shapovalov and Mboko Also in Action

The third round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells saw a compelling matchup between Félix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo, with Auger-Aliassime emerging victorious. Denis Shapovalov and Victoria Mboko also saw action on Sunday.

Auger-Aliassime Overcomes Diallo

Seeded ninth, Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Gabriel Diallo 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 in a 2-hour and 27-minute contest on Sunday.

Diallo took the first set in a tiebreaker, but Auger-Aliassime responded by raising his level of play in the subsequent sets, winning several extended rallies.

Auger-Aliassime recorded nine aces, 28 winners, and 32 unforced errors. Diallo managed 11 aces, 20 winners, but also 42 unforced errors.

Diallo was broken four times out of seven opportunities, while he only converted one of his four break points. Auger-Aliassime won 81% of points on his first serve and 56% on his second. Diallo’s first and second serve success rates were 66% and 53%, respectively.

Auger-Aliassime will next face Arthur Fils, who defeated Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 7-5.

Shapovalov Falls to Sinner

Earlier on Sunday, Denis Shapovalov was defeated by world No. 2 Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-2 in just 1 hour and 11 minutes.

Sinner dominated the match, hitting six aces, 14 winners, and 11 unforced errors. Shapovalov recorded two aces, 11 winners, and 25 unforced errors.

Shapovalov won 62% of points on his first serve and a mere 23% on his second. He saved four of the eight break points he faced and earned one break point of his own.

Mboko Advances to Next Round

Victoria Mboko secured a victory over Anna Kalinskaya 6-4, 6-1 in the third round. The match lasted 1 hour and 4 minutes.

Mboko, making her first appearance at Indian Wells, slammed three aces and committed three double faults, winning 80% of points on her first serve and 70% on her second.

Mboko broke Kalinskaya three times while saving both break points against her. Kalinskaya, who appeared to be experiencing back pain in the second set, won 64% of points on her first serve and 41% on her second.

Mboko will next face Amanda Anisimova.
