Audi has unveiled the third generation of the Q5, the global best-selling medium-large SUV from the four rings. Mild hybrid petrol and diesel engines, greater use of the electric motor for lower consumption and emissions. The plug-in hybrid version will be added later
Traditionally full of new two- and four-wheeled vehicles, the month of September begins with the official presentation of the new SUV Audi Q5the third generation of the best-selling four-ring model. It is the first based on the PPC platform, (Premium Platform Combustion) debuted by the new Audi A5 and dedicated to alternative engines to the electric ones based on the Ppe platform (Premium Platform Electric). At launch, it will be offered with petrol and diesel engines flanked by 48-volt mild hybrid technology, always in combination with the automatic transmission. It will hit the roads in the first half of 2025 at a price not yet declared, although it is reasonable to expect a slight increase compared to the current starting base of 59,550 euros.

The dimensions of the new Q5 SUV have not been disclosed, presumably similar to the outgoing model which is 4,682 mm long. The new Ppc platform seems to have left the proportions of the previous series unchanged, as always updated in the name of stylistic continuity. The front features Audi Matrix Led light clusters that allow you to select eight different light signatures, with the daytime running lights in the upper part that converge towards the new grille single frame, with enlarged honeycomb mesh. At the rear, however, the rear lights with OLED technology are joined by a light band similar to the Q4 e-tron.

The stylistic setting of the passenger compartment has changed a lot, designed around the three displays dedicated to the instrument panel (11.9 inches), infotainment (14.5″) and front passenger entertainment (10.9″). Among the five IT platforms responsible for controlling all the vehicle functions, there is also the new operating system Android Automotive OS prepared for remote update (Over-the-Airacronym Ota). As is the case with the most recent Audis, it offers interaction between ChatGpt and the voice assistant, which anonymously calls the artificial intelligence when it is unable to respond to the driver’s request.

The new one Audi Q5 has inherited the 48-volt mild hybrid plus technology from the A5, to support the combustion engine. The heart of the system is the innovative powertrain generator (Ptg), combined with the transmission and composed of an electric motor, power electronics, dedicated cooling system and device actuator. The powertrain generator works in combination with a dedicated 1.7 kWh battery, for a greater electrical contribution (24 hp and 230 Nm of torque) compared to more traditional mild hybrid systems. Using the electric motor for a longer time will help reduce consumption and emissions. As mentioned at the beginning, there will be three engines available at launch: all supported by 48-volt Mhev plus technology and combined with the 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The offer starts with the 2.0 Tfsi petrol engine with 204 hp and 340 Nm of torque, offered in front-wheel drive or quattro ultra all-wheel drive configurations. Also on the price list is the Q5 hybrid diesel with 204 hp and 400 Nm of torque, offered in combination with quattro ultra all-wheel drive. The top of the range remains unchanged, occupied by the Audi SQ5, powered by the V6 3.0 Tfsi with 367 hp and 550 Nm of torque. In a few months, the engine range will be integrated with plug-in hybrid units.
