Auburn Basketball Faces Queens in Nonconference Finale Ahead of SEC Play

Just one game separates Auburn basketball from its return to Southeastern Conference (SEC) play, where it’ll defend last season’s conference championship. Although there’s not much reason to expect a repeat.

Despite commendable nonconference results, Auburn hasn’t done much to compete with the best of the best on its slate. The Tigers have lost four of their five matchups with ranked opponents by an average of 22.5 points. Their nonconference finale comes Monday, Dec. 29, where they will host Queens after a three-week hiatus from Neville Arena.

As tonight’s contest gets underway, stay tuned here for the Montgomery Advertiser‘s live score updates.

All times central. Asterisks denote neutral site competition.

“We would have liked for us to have played better early, I think that’s an understatement,” said coach Steven Pearl (“after their last game against Purdue”).

That early-season defeat to Purdue was a part of a larger trend for Auburn, which has struggled against top-tier competition.

As Auburn aims to defend its SEC championship, bouncing back against lesser opponents like Queens will be crucial. The Tigers have shown they can compete with the best, but consistently proving it will be the key to another successful season.
