More than 100 corroded medals have been returned by athletes to the organizing committee of the Paris Games. The most serious problem is with the bronze ones, which corrode almost immediately after being touched by the athlete’s body.
The Paris Mint excuses itself that it’s all because of a banned component and the lack of time to test the awards. However, the two employees who were responsible for making the medals were fired.
The IOC has ensured that all awards will be replaced. Bronze medals for Bulgaria were won by Kimia Alizadeh in taekwondo, Javier Ibanez in boxing and Bozhidar Andreev in bars.
