ASSE’s Ambitions for the 23/24 Coupe de France Revealed by Laurent Batlles

Aiming for Success

Can ASSE balance their Coupe de France campaign with their goal of promotion to Ligue 1? “We will assess our position, but what matters is maintaining competitiveness every weekend. Despite the friendly matches, we have managed to find additional games during the Coupe de France weekends, whether for those eliminated or not, or those returning to their championships. Keeping the entire squad alert and engaged through competitions is crucial. As for compatibility, time will tell. We want to progress in both the competition and the championship. We will strive to involve everyone, providing playing time for players who need it, giving them a chance to make an impression and earn points.”

“Respecting ASSE’s Status, Jersey, and Club”

“Given the number of players available, there may be some tough decisions to make. However, we will field the team that appears to be the strongest, potentially with a different system and different players. Our aim is to put forth the most competitive lineup to secure qualification. We have a status, a jersey, and a club to respect. While we acknowledge the favorites in the Coupe de France, we approach the match with humility. Bourg, currently leading in N2, is our opponent. We have studied their matches, and they have aspirations to move up to the National league. They are a club in the process of rebuilding, so this won’t be an easy match, just like any other. Nevertheless, our goal is to advance in the competition.”

Batlles Cautious of Bourg Péronnas

“Bourg Péronnas plays with a 3-4-3 formation, utilizing wing-backs who operate at varying heights. They possess great technical quality in midfield, particularly with their two number 10s and two attackers. Additionally, they have players with both technical skills and speed on the flanks. Defensively, they are solid with three experienced players. It seems that their consistency in N2 translates into their style of play. We will see if they can replicate it against us. I believe their coach has clear ideas and will strive to implement them.”
