Argentina received bad news before taking the field in the World Cup qualifiers. Nicolas Gonzales is out of the team due to injury. As a result, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has to change the team for the next two matches.
Scaloni announced a 27-man squad for the matches against Venezuela and Bolivia on Wednesday (October 2). The Juventus forward was injured a few hours after the announcement of the team. The 26-year-old forward felt discomfort in his leg after the match against Leipzig. The Italian club confirmed his injury in a statement the following day.
Juventus did not say how long it will take for Gonzales to recover. But it is expected to take about a month. Meanwhile, Argentina coach Scaloni has not announced anyone as a replacement for Gonzales.
Argentina will play in Venezuela on October 10. The three-time World Cup winners will face Bolivia at home on October 15.
Argentina is at the top of the list of 10 teams with 18 points from 6 wins in 8 matches in the qualifiers of the South American region of the 2026 World Cup. In their equal match, Venezuela is sixth with 10 points, Bolivia is eighth with 9 points.
