Fri, 4:19 p.m. Apple Services imjThe youngest member of the ranks of subscription-based Apple services has just turned four years old – Fitness+ launched on December 14, 2020 as a combination of video streaming, vital data evaluation and training plan management in the United States, and since November 3, 2021 also in Germany. At the turn of the year, the subscription service is gaining many features, such as a Press release announced.

The biggest change is a collaboration between Apple and Strava. The sports-oriented social network is popular with endurance athletes as a way to record bike rides or runs and enrich them with images. Friends and colleagues can cheer with “kudos” and comments. Similar to Apple’s fitness app, Strava awards trophies and tracks workout progress; however, the achievements are more diverse – and public. The downside: Strava collects a lot of personal data and uses the movement data to create route suggestions for others.

Free trial membership and guest appearances
With Strava you get one monthly Membership fee (currently 10.99 euros) no pre-recorded video sessions, but extended statistics, support with route planning and a training diary. Anyone who has an active Strava subscription can book Apple Fitness+ for free for three months. However, Apple is currently offering this to all Apple users for a short time. Some Strava members have now acquired influencer-like prominence within the network; Apple wants to invite them to its own sports sessions as guest trainers.

Targeted training for strength, yoga, pickleball
In addition to the twelve sports, Apple also offers some special programs, such as three-week strength training, which can be repeated as desired. “Yoga Peak Poses” focuses on a single exercise in ten minutes each, which is intended to replace an individual session with a yoga trainer. On top of that, Apple was able to win the former world number one Catherine Parenteau for a few sessions for the trend sport “Pickleball”. In it, pickleball enthusiasts build strength, conditioning and flexibility for this apparently popular sport.

Artist playlist
Fitness+ also publishes fitness-optimized playlists from outstanding artists every week. First up is Janet Jackson (January 13th), followed by a Coldplay playlist on January 20th. Afterwards, Bruno Mars (January 27th) and Kendrick Lamar (February 3rd) are on the program.

Time to Go: “Severance” Crossover
The low-threshold offer “Time for Walking” is intended to provide entertainment during walks. Apple also wants to expand the existing offering. The actor Adam Scott will start on January 13th. In the surreal office mystery series “Severance,” which is available exclusively on Apple TV+, he plays the protagonist Mark Scout. The timing was certainly chosen on purpose: the first episodes of the second season will appear on January 17, 2025.

With “Time to Walk,” Apple Fitness+ wants to make walks more fun.
