Former World No. 128 Antonia Lottner Reflects on Her Tennis Career and Life After Retirement
From Junior Sensation to Bundesliga Player
You might remember Antonia Lottner from her impressive juniors career, reaching the final of Roland Garros in 2013. After a notable professional career, playing at Grand Slams and representing Germany in Fed Cup, the 28-year-old has hung up her racquet.
Retired But Not Done
“I’m no longer on the tour,” Lottner said in an interview. “I wanted to see where the journey goes, so I left it open whether I’d play again. I’m currently settled in Cologne, doing training and giving training.'”
A Career in Retrospect
Reflecting on her career, Lottner said, “There are two answers. The athlete in me says there could have been more, like making an Olympics final or progressing further in a Grand Slam. But the private Antonia appreciates what I’ve achieved.“
Highs and Lows
- Highlights: Leading the Fed Cup team to victory in Belarus and qualifying for the US Open in 2019.
- Challenges: Extended periods of waiting and loneliness on the tour. Despite these, Lottner always looked forward to Grand Slams due to the atmosphere and friends on-site.
A New Chapter
Lottner is now pursuing office management training at her local tennis club, Rot-Weiß Cologne, and still plays in the Bundesliga – tennis doubles for TC Weiden, and paddle tennis for Tec Waldau Stuttgart.
