Medina and Senyú Shine at Dominican Republic Women’s Sports Games
Bayaguana. – The Olympic medalist Anabel Medina and the champion of the Central American Games, Marysabel Senyú, won their respective events on Saturday at the Women’s Sports Games, with athletics competitions held at the Luguelín Santos track in this municipality.
Dominant Performances Highlight Athletics Competition
Medina, representing Santo Domingo, claimed victory in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.74 seconds. She was followed by Roman athletes Fiordaliza Cofil (52.53) and Estrella de Aza (53.23).
Medina was presented with her award by world and Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino, who likewise serves as the president of the organizing committee for the Women’s Games.
Senyú, from La Romana, dominated the high jump, clearing a height of 1.91 meters. Berslandy Kancele (Monte Plata, 1.58) and Yacairy Florentino (San Cristóbal, 1.55) completed the podium.

Pan American Games silver medalist Franshina Martínez, a native of San Juan de la Maguana, secured first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.05. She was closely followed by Evilin del Carmen (Santo Domingo, 1:00.04) and Emaelia José Medina (La Romana, 1:03.33).
Additional winners included: Milkeiry Moreno (National District) in the 800 meters; Gillian Peña (Santiago) in hammer throw; and Fredelin Tejeda in the 5,000 meters.
Games Return After Decade-Long Hiatus
The Women’s Sports Games are dedicated to Mrs. Melba Segura de Grullón and bring together approximately 680 athletes from across the country. The event, which was inaugurated on Thursday, will conclude on Sunday, marking its return after a 10-year absence thanks to the support of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The Women’s Sports Games feature competitions in basketball, volleyball, karate, judo, weightlifting, duathlon, athletics, skating, softball, wrestling, and taekwondo.
