Alghero Judo Club Shines on National Stage

The Judo Club Alghero continues to demonstrate its strength in the Italian youth judo scene, highlighted by a successful showing at the Trofeo Italia Esordienti A & B held in Leinì on March 7th and 8th. The club secured a total of nine medals – five in the Esordienti B category and four in the Esordienti A category – showcasing the depth of talent within its ranks.

Monaco Claims Gold and National Ranking Lead

Leading the charge for the Alghero club was Andrea Monaco (-60 kg) in the Esordienti B division. Monaco delivered an impressive performance, winning all five of his matches to claim the gold medal. This victory propelled him to the top of the National Ranking List for Rookies B in the 60kg category.

“Thanks to this performance and the excellent results of last year, Monaco is now in first place in the National Ranking List for Rookies B in the 60kg category, a success which is honorable and brings the Alghero amateur club to the national spotlight.”

Medal Haul Across Both Categories

Beyond Monaco’s gold, the Esordienti B team saw Federico Mastinu (-38 kg) achieve a ninth-place finish with two victories in four matches. Riccardo Venturi (-42 kg) and Julio Dettori (-46 kg) each secured a win before being eliminated in the second round, while Carlotta Sotgiu (-63 kg) demonstrated promising improvements.

In the Esordienti A competition, Lorenzo Palazzolo (-66 kg) earned a silver medal after a strong comeback. Altea Mereu (-40 kg), Gabriel Monaco (-50 kg), and Daniel Bisca (-60 kg) each secured bronze medals with three wins and one loss. Filippo Sotgiu (-42 kg) fought valiantly but was unfortunately not repesched.
