BOSTON —Alex Bregman, the star third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, has hinted at a possible switch in allegiances for the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC). The three-time All-Star, who has represented Team USA in international competitions throughout his career, is considering donning the uniform of Team Israel.
“It’s definitely something that is on my radar… Down the road, I will be thinking about it a little bit more.”
Bregman’s Journey to the Matzav
Bregman, a devout Jew, has increasingly connected with his Jewish roots, particularly after October 2023. In interviews with the Boston Herald and the Houston Chronicle, Bregman expressed his interest in representing Israel in international baseball.
“Honestly, I’ve played for Team USA for pretty much my whole career… But now, representing Israel, it would mean a lot,” Bregman said.
WBC 2026: Israel Set for Pool D, USA for Pool B
In the upcoming 2026 WBC, Team Israel will compete in Pool D, managed by returning skipper Ian Kinsler. Meanwhile, Team USA will be led by Mark DeRosa in Pool B, with Houston, Texas, as their host city.
