After a back-and-forth second day that saw him lose his co-lead, Aldrich Potgieter fired a flawless round of 65 on Saturday to reclaim the top spot heading into the final day of the Rocket Classic. The 20-year-old South African will carry a two-stroke advantage into Sunday’s deciding round, with his eyes set on his first PGA Tour victory.

The third round at the Detroit Golf Club was a Tale of Aldrich, with the young South African separating himself from the pack with a front-nine charge that included five consecutive birdies. Despite the emphatic performance, Potgieter knows the job is far from done, with 18 holes remaining against a strong field.

Potgieter Eyes History in Detroit

The native of Pretoria knows that he’ll need to maintain his focus and sharp play on Sunday to secure the victory. Playing in just his 22nd PGA Tour event, Potgieter has already proven himself a contender, with top-10 finishes at the Mexico Open andNedbank Challenge.

The threat could come from anywhere on this challenging Detroit Golf Club course, where the course record has already been broken three times this week (by Potgieter, Roy, and Knapp). Among the chasing pack are seasoned veterans and multiple PGA Tour winners Chris Kirk (-17) and Collin Morikawa (-15), each looking for their seventh tour victory.
