The Caribbean region had the largest movement of merchandise with 118.3 million tons, followed by the Pacific region with 14.9 million tons.

By type of traffic, 81.1% of the cargo was international movement (58% export and 23% import), followed by transshipment cargo (12.5%) and cabotage (4.9%).

Cargo mobilization through port areas

​The SuperTransporte document states that 27.5% of the cargo was moved through Cartagena (37.1 million tons); followed by Ciénaga with 18.2% (24.5 million tons) and the Gulf of Morrosquillo with 14.3% (19.2 million tons).

San Andrés with 221 thousand tons, and Tumaco with 6 thousand tons, were the port areas with the least cargo moved in the period.

Bulk coal was the most moved cargo with 45.7 million tons (33.9% of the total), followed by liquid bulk with 36.5 million tons (27% of the share), while general cargo occupied the lower mobilization with 3.4 million tons (2.6% of the share).

Exports and Imports

In the first nine months of the year, the main exported product was coal, with 44.3 million tons (56.5% of the total and an increase of 7% compared to 2023); They are followed by petroleum products with 13.1 million tons (16.7% of the cargo and an increase of 17.7%); oil, with 9.6 million tons moved (12.2% of cargo and increase of 9%)

Oils and fats are the products with the least exports during the period of analysis: a drop of -23.5%.

Likewise, the most imported products from January to September 2024 were: petroleum products (4.4 million tons, 14.2% of the total); corn (4.2 million tons and 13.8% of the total); and boxes and packaging (2.4 million tons and 8.8% of total cargo).

Movement by ships

The analysis says that between January and September 2024, 8,431 ships arrived at national ports: Cartagena received 3,465 (41.1% of the total), while the one that received the fewest ships was Tumaco with 17 (0.2% of the total).
