In the 5th round clash in the 1st Judo Bundesliga, series champions Allianz Kukla Galaxy Tigers stopped the previously unbeaten league leaders ESV Sanjindo in Bischofshofen – 8:6 for the Viennese, where the Moldovan star Denis Vieru was an essential piece of the mosaic of the narrow success. The Olympic bronze medalist from Paris and European champion in 2023 won both of his fights up to 66 kilos. Vienna Samurai, on the other hand, had to accept an unfortunate 6:8 defeat at UJZ Mühlviertel.

Even if, as Galaxy coach Thomas Haasmann formulated, the league duel between first and second was only about the “Golden Pineapple”, it was still a prestige duel. And it was not only Vieru who was significantly involved in this success of the Viennese. Philip Austleague loan from Klosterneuburg, won both of his fights up to 73 kilos. The “Borchashvilli clan” ensured that it remained exciting until the end – both Sleeping as well as Adam (beat up to 100 kilos Sanjindo star Thomas Scharfetter Ippon) and Movli Borchashvilliwho recently jumped onto a World Tour podium for the first time in third place at the Grand Prix tournament in Zagreb, won one fight, but also lost one. And the 60-kilo legionnaire Ahmed Yusifov ended up with a 1:1 draw. The seventh-placed team Bernd Fasching (81 kilos) was spared. In the table, Sanjindo remains ahead of the Galaxy judoka, who now have the same number of points, thanks to the better fight difference.

Vienna Samurai suffered a very narrow defeat at record champions UJZ Mühlviertel – 6:8 in the end in a thrilling duel in Niederwaldkirchen. Leon Tschilikin (up to 81 kg) and Daniel Autumn (up to 100 kg) exciting. It’s a shame that in the end the Leopoldstadt team didn’t get a point.
