In the heart of El Carmen de Viboral, the Sixto Arango Gallo House of Culture stands as a testimony of the history and cultural identity of this Antioquia municipality. Its past, which dates back to 1916 as the Santa Teresa Private School, contains chapters that narrate the commitment of a community to preserve its heritage. Today, this Living House embodies a transformative mission: to be a space where art, history and memory converge to tell stories that inspire generations, all in a museum that bears the same name.

Since the Franciscan sisters handed this building over to the municipality in 1988, the place has witnessed a process of cultural resignification. Its consolidation as a House of Culture, in 1989, marked the beginning of a collective project that years later would evolve into the El Carmen de Viboral Culture Institute, created in 2007. This institution has become a pillar for the promotion and dissemination of art in the region.

The ceramic tradition of El Carmen de Viboral began in 1898, when Eliseo Pareja, a businessman in the sector, moved from Caldas and founded the Locería del Carmen the following year, marking the beginning of this legacy.

Currently, the House of Culture is transformed into an interactive museum that promises to be an immersive experience for its visitors. On December 8, the doors of the museum will open with a temporary exhibition that celebrates 50 years of pottery, an emblematic tradition of the municipality.

The exhibition has three rooms that narrate different aspects of the identity of El Carmen de Viboral. The first, called The house and its materialshighlights the objects that have inhabited the Institute since its founding.

The second room, dedicated to archaeology, is named after Gustavo Santos, a renowned anthropologist who promoted ceramics in the region. Here, visitors will be able to admire ancient lithic materials and ceramic fragments that narrate the cultural evolution of Eastern Antioquia. Finally, the third room, titled Exchange of knowledge: in the hands of friendshiphighlights the 126 years of Carmelite ceramic tradition.
