Eduardo López Escalante, a young Samario who defends the colors of Colombia in the Beach Soccer Team, lives the dream of representing the country in a sport that has given him joy and unique moments. This defender, who stands out for his physical and mental strength, shares what his path has been like in international arenas.
In an exclusive interview with EL INFORMADORLópez shared details about his personal and professional growth, and how, since his childhood, the unconditional support of his family has been key to reaching his current level. “It is a huge pride to wear the National Team shirt. Beyond the clothing, I feel like I carry with me all the people who have supported me from the beginning: my family, my friends, who always send me good energy. Representing them is my greatest motivation,” the defender expressed with emotion.
Since his first steps in beach soccer, Eduardo highlighted that perseverance is one of the pillars of his success, combining daily sessions in the gym, work in the sand and physical therapies. “The National Team’s coaching staff gives us support, but it is also a personal job. We always encourage positive and resilient thoughts,” he said.
The footballer highlights the importance of staying calm and not becoming obsessed with the game. “I don’t follow a strict ritual, but I try to stay relaxed, transmit that calm to my teammates and clear my mind, often listening to music before entering the court,” he explained. For him, football is not only a sport, but a form of emotional connection with those who have seen him grow up.

The party that you will never forget
The most significant moment in his career came this year, during the Copa América, when Colombia beat Paraguay 7-5 to achieve their first World Cup qualification. “I had never felt anything like this. It was a collective achievement that will remain in the history of Colombian beach soccer,” he recalls excitedly.
López finds references both in traditional football and on the beach; when he was very young he admired Iván Ramiro Córdoba, a player who marked his childhood. In beach soccer he has faced great figures, but he does not forget a Brazilian naturalized Japanese that he met at the World Cup. “There are many who inspire me, but he is one that I remember clearly,” he says.
Although he is not a natural goal scorer, Eduardo identifies with mid-range shots, whether aerial or low from the middle of the field, which he says is his specialty. “I like to surprise from behind and contribute to the team with that technique,” he confesses.
With a mix of talent, effort and humility, Eduardo López Escalante brings the name of Santa Marta and Colombia to the most important stages of beach soccer, demonstrating that dreams are possible with dedication.
Although he still has many years to compete at the highest level, Eduardo dreams of making history and winning many titles, although his maximum one of them has been fulfilled, there is still the responsibility of winning something with the national team.
The Colombian Men’s Beach Soccer Team is preparing to face what will be the Conmebol Copa América of the discipline in 2025. The championship will be held in Chile from February 22 to March 2 and will have 10 participating teams: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia , Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and Uruguay.
