Avilés Judo Club Presents Initiative to Promote Inclusivity in Martial Arts

Avilés, Spain – Judo Avilés, a local judo club in Avilés, Spain, has unveiled an innovative project titled ‘Te @judo’ with the mission of promoting martial arts inclusivity. The project, launched at the Valdecarzana Palace, aims to break down barriers and support groups challenging social and economic hardships to join the sport.
“Our key focus is to support groups facing difficulties before they even step onto the tatami. We want to get them to the starting line at the same level as everyone else,” said Carlos Fernández, technical director of Judo Avilés.

Collaborative Effort for ‘Te @judo’ Project

The event saw the attendance of Alejandro Alonso from the King Pelayo Association, Juan Carlos Guerrero, Avilés’ Sports Councilor, Carmen Sellán, director of CAI de la Unión in Salinas, Pilar del Pozo from Rotary Balagares, and Sabino González from the Buena Colesterol Brotherhood. The project director, Carlos Fernández, mentioned that private sponsors and local administrations will support the initiative initially, with the hope of gaining public administration backing.

Project Kick-off and Future Aspirations

The ‘Te @judo’ project commences on Wednesday, March 30, at the Quirinal Sports Center’s tatami with members of the Rey Pelayo Association, followed by CAI La Unión. Post-September, the club aims to expand, targeting individuals with sensory disabilities, economic struggles, women facing difficulties, ethnic minorities, cultural exclusions, immigrants – anyone facing barriers to sports participation.
“It’s an indispensable project with a bright future. Sports are pivotal for health, integration, and happiness,” Fernández averred.
