Squash to Make Olympic Debut at LA 2028 in Iconic Hollywood Venue

Historic Courthouse Square to Host Squash at the Olympics

Los Angeles, April 15 – In a thrilling announcement, squash, a sport new to the Olympic Games, will be held at the iconic Courthouse Square during the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

The venue, originally a backlot at Universal Studios Lot in San Fernando Valley, has played host to numerous iconic scenes in Hollywood movies such as Back to The Future, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Nutty Professor, and Bruce Almighty.

Four Glass Walls: Squash’s Unique Spectator Experience

Typical squash matches take place on a court with four glass walls. This layout allows spectators to engage with the action from all angles, making Courthouse Square an ideal fit for the sport.

USA’s Squash Ambitions: Aiming for Podium Finishes

One of five new sports introduced for the LA 2028 Games, squash enters the Olympics with a strong U.S. contingent. The U.S. women’s team, led by world-class players like Amanda Sobhy and Olivia Weaver, has already proven its mettle by winning the Women’s World Team Championships in 2022 and 2024.

“I don’t know if there are any Olympians that made it to the Games after coming back from two Achilles ruptures.”

— Amanda Sobhy, U.S. Women’s National Squash Team

Reflecting on her journey, Sobhy told Olympics.com, “To play in front of friends and family would be amazing and having it in the States is the cherry on top for squash in the U.S.”

Olympic debuts present unique challenges and opportunities. If successful, Sobhy and the U.S. team could write their names in history as the first American medalists in Olympic squash.
