Jill Lorent made history as the second woman to coach a BNXT League club. Lorent stepped down from her assistant position with the Belgian national team “to fully embrace the role,” following in the footsteps of Gaëlle Bouzin, who currently leads Landstede Hammers Zwolle in the Netherlands. Antwerp, Lorent’s club, expressed gratitude for her dedication and indicated their intention to discuss a new role for her within the organization.

Antwerp Seeks to Build for the Future

Currently, Antwerp holds the 10th position in the BNXT League standings with an 11-10 record. The club’s recent announcement signifies their commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a positive environment for growth. Lorent’s experience with the Belgian national team, coupled with her previous involvement with Antwerp, positions her to contribute significantly to the club’s future endeavors.

Roel Moors Embraces New Chapter

Meanwhile, Roel Moors, who previously served as Antwerp’s head coach, parted ways with his current German team, Bonn. The 46-year-old coach spent four fruitful seasons with Antwerp, culminating in a remarkable third-place finish in the Champions League in 2019, where the team reached the Final Four.

Moors, a veteran of the sport with an 18-year playing career, which included stints with Antwerp and Charleroi, embarked on his coaching journey with Antwerp. His decision to move abroad led him to Bamberg (2019-2020), Göttingen (2020-2023), and lastly, Berlin, in a quest to broaden his experience and strategic insights.

“I wanted to see different basketball cultures, test myself in new environments,” Moors said in a recent interview. “These experiences have shaped me as a coach and made me more adaptable. I’m excited about this new chapter and eager to contribute to the development of young talent.”
